Upcoming 0.8.4 release: XML-RPC and using local PEAR

FYI, seems that I can't download and install the pluging "Post via XML-RPC" unless I had serendipity 0.9 and above. I had to download the zip file, go to the plugin source and change the line in serendipityeventxmlrpc.php that refer to the requirements to serendipity' => '0.8. :).

You are right, thanks a lot for noticing. I adjusted those requirements and re-uploaded the .tgz file and committed it to our additional plugins repository.
XML-RPC API unbundled from Serendipity 0.9

What does this technobabble mean?
It means that S9Y 0.8.3 and up will come with a function disabled that you do generally not use. By disabling this normally unused function, S9Y offers one less function to the net that may be used to attack the software. This is generally considered a good thing and a safer default that offering unused and badly maintained functionality.
If you happen to use an external editor on your PC to write your entries for your blog instead of the editor provided by S9Y, then and only then you need to enable the XML-RPC posting plugin. This is not the case for most users of S9Y.

Current SVN listing still shows the XML PHP file as part of the trunk as well as the branch. I wonder if they will be removed now?

Ask, and thou shalt receive. Post strange HTML entities, and thou shalt receive question marks.

I've been beaten to the punch! Oh well, with all the things I have to do these days, I'm not surprised. Thankfully, this college semester is over.
By the way, about comment #2, I think that may be chinese/japanese. Shouldn't HTML entities be displayed rather than escaped? It's not like you can do any harm by using them. May have to do word detection or something...
