Serendipity – The official Serendipity blog

We have finally made it to create an official Serendipity blog. It's design and uniqueness will improve during the next weeks, but for now we will start with the basics.

It is important to note that this new blog will not obsolete our Wiki Documentation and Presentation Site or our Forums. Instead this blog will server as an information central with news on releases, development and other important news.

As a Serendipity user you should at least subscribe to our RSS Announcements feeds.

Our categories are:

• Security
News on security issues, serious bugs and upgrade urges. We hope to get as little postings in this category as possible. ;-)
• Announcements
General Announcement from news versions, on structural changes or anything important worth noting
• DevelopmentBreaking new development will be documented here, as well as explanations of code.
• Plugins
New plugins will be announced and discussed here
• Personal
If our developers feel to talk about their private views or want to note something personal, they will do it in this category

The last news items from our Wiki have already been imported into this blog for your convenience.

Thanks for your attention - feedback is appreciated as always.

Here we go, this will be the official s9y blog! If you are a s9y developer and wish to get write-access to this blog, contact either garvin or me and we'll create an account for you.

Peace out.

Due to a bug in the version_compare issue in PHP versions prior to 4.3, an Upgrade from Serendipity 0.7.1 to 0.8 may fail. Because of this error and other security issues in older PHP versions you are urged to upgrade your PHP versions to the latest 4.3 version. Please talk to your hoster to setup a proper version for you, if you do not have access on your own.

The ongoing sourcecode development of Serendipity has been migrated to BerliOS. We will now maintain our code via SVN instead of CVS. Additional plugins and Themes will still be hosted and maintained on SourceForge.net, as well will we migrate new snapshots/branches of final versions to the SourceForge CVS.

If you want to participate in Serendipity, apply for a SVN account on our Mailing List.

New changes will now be available via ViewCVS on BerliOS.

Finally, after about 8 months of hard development and 6 beta releases the Serendipity Team is proud to finally release version 0.8 of Serendipity.

Many new and important features have been introduced, the core code has been made much more flexible, our code is polished up and many bugs and security issues were addressed.

Thus we feel that this latest version is a very recommended upgrade for all users.

We have put up a detailed migration and upgrade documentationere here: 0.8 Release Announcement. Please read it carefully, it contains all information on how to upgrade within just a few minutes to your brand-new blog.

0.8-beta Users are urged to upgrade to the final version as a few important security fixes have been made.

We would like to thank everyone who has helped us improve Serendipity by reporting bugs and feature requests, and taking Serendipity to a new level. We are open to any feedback for this new release!

On behalf of the Serendipity-Team,

Garvin
